Born in the ’60s and still going strong, Eagle Leasing has grown from a New England family operation into one of the largest trailer and container providers in the eastern United States.
Back in the 1960s, Irving Eagle and his three sons, Louis, Alvin, and Morty, worked for Strick Trailers, the country’s largest trailer manufacturer at the time. While working for Strick, the Eagle brothers sold new trailers to trucking companies throughout the Northeast. Instead of taking a sales commission, the Eagles were often offered older trade-in trailers to keep for themselves, as Strick didn’t want them back. They saw potential in leasing these trade-ins and built a small fleet of trailers rented for storage. The business took off, and in 1967 they left Strick and formed The Eagle Leasing Co. in Orange, CT.
Today, Eagle Leasing serves customers from residential to industrial with more than 20,000 units in its fleet and over 100 acres of land across its facilities. What started with storage and road trailers has expanded to include flatbeds, storage containers, office trailers, and office containers.
As portable storage demand continued to grow, we expanded again by joining the Rent-A-Container network — bringing Eagle’s experience, fleet strength, and service standards to a much larger footprint. Today, Eagle Leasing helps support and service every Rent-A-Container location, with coverage reaching across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, and into Michigan and Illinois.
With more than 200 employees, Eagle Leasing remains family-built, customer-focused, and committed to delivering dependable space solutions—wherever and whenever they’re needed.

1920sRoots in the trailer trade
Irving Eagle takes a job at Strick Solid Tire, later Strick Trailer & Manufacturing. Over the decades, Irving and his three sons — Louis, Alvin, and Morty — sell trailers to trucking companies across the Northeast.

1960sThe idea that started it all
Instead of taking sales commissions, the Eagles keep the older trade-in trailers Strick no longer wants. They see the potential in leasing them and build a small fleet under Eagle Commercial Trailers — the direct predecessor to Eagle Leasing.

1967The Eagle Leasing Co. is born
Louis and his father leave Strick and incorporate The Eagle Leasing Co. in Orange, CT. With no office and no shop yet, Louis runs the company from home — handling billing, collections, and repairs himself, with the family pitching in on the mailings.

Early 1970sFirst office, first big idea
Eagle opens its first real office in Orange with a handful of drivers and a repair shop. Louis launches the company’s first direct-mail campaign — hand-addressed postcards sent through the Yellow Pages — growing the customer base to around 100.

1987Crossing into Massachusetts
With New England’s high-tech boom underway, the family studies the map and chooses Southborough — 4.5 acres on the highest point of Route 9. A sign visible for miles down the turnpike marks Eagle’s arrival in the Bay State.

1990sFrom trailers to containers
Eagle buys its first shipping containers from the New Jersey ports. Construction clients quickly embrace them, and demand snowballs — soon followed by office containers built around the same customer feedback.

2006Oxford, MA location takes flight
Eagle acquires a decommissioned airport in Oxford and transforms its hangars into a state-of-the-art hub for container processing, paint, metal fabrication, and modifications — extending full-service coverage into Rhode Island and central Massachusetts.

2000sThe Northeast’s largest — and still family
Four generations of Eagles strong, the company runs 20,000+ units across 100+ acres and four locations — Orange, CT and Southborough, Oxford, and Northborough, MA — with a team of 130+, many of whom have been here for decades.

2025A new chapter
Eagle Leasing joins Rent-A-Container, creating one of the largest portable storage providers in the Eastern U.S. The roots, the family culture, and the customer-first promise carry forward — now with even greater reach.

Rent-A-Container unites under the Eagle Leasing name — bringing both companies together as a single brand. One trusted team, one expanded footprint, and the same family commitment that started it all back in 1967.
