What type of foundation is required to place a container?
A hard, compact surface is necessary to support a container effectively. Using railroad ties or pre-treated lumber can provide additional support and facilitate airflow under the container’s floor, which is essential for maintaining its condition. In most cases, it is not necessary to pour a concrete slab, making the setup more straightforward and cost-effective.
When I receive a new container or a one-trip container, is it completely brand new from the factory?
While the term “new container” might suggest it’s fresh off the factory floor, the process is a bit more nuanced. Here’s what typically happens:
- Manufacturing: Most new containers are produced in China.
- Transportation to the US: Transporting an empty container from China to the US can be prohibitively expensive, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 based on economic conditions.
- Cost-Saving Measure: To reduce this transportation cost, ocean carriers often get to use these new containers (referred to as “one-trip containers”) for a specified period without charge. In return, they offer free transportation for these containers to the US.
- Condition upon Arrival: Since these containers are used for shipping during their “one trip,” it’s common for them to arrive with minor dents, tire marks, or scratches on the floor.
Why are 10′ shipping containers more expensive per square foot of space compared to 20′ containers?
This cost difference arises from the production process. 20′ and 40′ containers are manufactured in large-scale production, benefiting from economies of scale, which can significantly reduce their cost per square foot. In contrast, 10′ containers are essentially cut down from 20′ containers, involving more labor and modification costs, making them comparatively more expensive per square foot.
What is the difference between Gross Weight, Net Weight, and Tare Weight of a container?
Gross Weight: This is the total weight of the container when it’s fully loaded with its contents. It includes both the weight of the contents and the weight of the container itself.
Net Weight: This is the weight of the contents inside the container, without considering the weight of the container.
Tare Weight: This is the weight of an empty container without any contents. When you subtract the Tare Weight from the Gross Weight, you get the Net Weight.
In a simple formula: Gross Weight = Net Weight + Tare Weight.
Can a container damage my driveway?
While our drivers carefully deliver the containers, the weight of the corner and its contents can sink into the ground over time. It is best to use some wood and or other pieces of material to prevent the container from sinking into the ground. The larger and more spread out the wood or other leveling material is, the less likely the container is to leave a mark. Even after taking all these precautions, their still is a possibility the container may leave a mark on the driveway. How many pallets fit in a 20 foot container?
If you stagger the pallets you will fit between 4 and 5 pallets.
How many pallets fit in a 40 foot container?
If you stagger the pallets, you will fit between 9 or 10 pallets depending on the pallet size.
If we buy a container, does it come with any warranty?
Yes, all units we sell come with a one-year warranty.
If we decide to purchase a container, will we get a title?
Shipping containers do not have titles. However, you will receive a bill of sale from us.
Other companies offer aluminum units, but your containers are steel. Which is better?
We pride ourselves in providing the best-quality storage container units. Steel units are stronger and safer than aluminum and will hold up better over time.
Do Eagle Leasing Storage Containers have vents?
Yes, all units typically have two to four vents along the sides of the unit.
Why do corner casting protrude from the bottom and top of a container?
Shipping containers are stacked on top of corner castings. When placing a container on the ground, it is important to place plywood, railroad ties or other items to prevent the corner casting from sticking into the ground. The more the weight of the container is spread out over a larger surface, the less concentrated the weight will be at any one point. What this means to our customers is that the container’s corner castings will be less likely to sink into the ground.
What is the difference between container flooring and plywood?
Container flooring is 19 to 21 plies and plywood is 5 plies. The more plies in flooring, the stronger the wood is, and the better able the wood is able to withstand a heavy load as well as tow motor traffic.
How do I open a Storage Container?
A ground-level storage container will have two doors at one end. You will see that across these doors are four vertical metal rods which extend from the top all the way to the bottom of the unit’s face. To open a storage container, raise the latch above the handle on the right-side door. Next, raise the handle and move it from right to left. This step will unhinge the locking mechanisms on the top and bottom portions of the door. Finally, open the right-side door by pulling the metal rod out towards you. Repeat the same process with the left-side door.
Can I order additional items after I’ve signed my lease?
Yes, of course! Either give us a call or send us an email with the any additions you wish to make to your order. Additional delivery charges may apply.
What is the difference between a Storage Trailer and a Storage Container?
There are a few key differences between the two types of units.

Do I need a lock for an Eagle Leasing Storage Container or Storage Trailer?
There is a place on the container for you to place your own padlock. For additional protection, we offer 13-pound heavy-duty Eagle Locks®.
How much room do I need to fit a Storage Container or Office Container on my site?
Our Storage Containers come in 40-foot, 20-foot and 10-foot lengths. They are delivered on flatbed vehicles where the container slides off like a dumpster. The side with the doors can face either way on the delivery vehicle. The 20-foot containers and 10-foot containers are delivered on a straight, one-piece flatbed truck that is approximately 28 feet long, so the truck would need a relatively straight shot of around 50 feet in order to drop a 20-foot container and about 40 feet for a 10-foot container. The 40-foot storage container is delivered on a tractor-trailer combo unit that is approximately 70 feet long. This vehicle would need about 100 feet of a straight shot to deliver a 40-foot container. Also, because of the configuration of the delivery vehicle, the site needs a fairly wide driveway in order to enter the property. Check out our Delivery Page for more helpful tips!
How long can I keep a Storage Container at my location?
You can keep the portable storage container at your location as long as you need it! Once the minimum rental period is up, the lease will automatically bill month-to-month until you request for us to pick up the unit.
Is there any site preparation necessary?
We need a surface that is fairly level, smooth and firm. We prefer to deliver on cement, pavement, asphalt or gravel, but we can deliver on dirt or grass as long as it is not soft or wet. If ground conditions at your location are soft, you may want to consider 2×10, 4×4 or 6×6 hardwood timbers to place under the unit to mitigate sinking into soft ground.
Do I need to be present for the delivery of my storage container?
We would prefer that you are present during the delivery to identify the correct place to park the unit on your property as well as to verify the condition of the container.
